1 Scope

GB/T 3048.8-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the AC withstand test on a cable - the voltage applied and for how long, the rate of rise, the immersion and the electrode arrangement, and what counts as a failure, on the test every length of cable passes before it leaves the works. Part 8 of the series. It replaces GB/T 3048.8-2007, in force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 5 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB/T 3048.8-2007.

This document describes the test methods for AC voltage of wires and cables, including test equipment, sample preparation, test procedures, test results, and evaluation. Determination, test safety, and test records. This document applies to AC voltage withstand tests on wire and cable products. This document does not apply to voltage testing of winding wire products.

3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 2900.19 and GB/T 3048.1, as well as the following terms and definitions, apply to this document.

3.1 peak value The maximum voltage in a complete cycle, excluding minute high-frequency oscillations caused by non-destructive discharge.

3.2 The square root of the average of the squares of the voltage values in a complete cycle.

3.3 The peak voltage in the test was divided by 2.

Note. Relevant equipment standards may require measuring the root mean square (RMS) value of the test voltage, rather than the peak value. For example, when considering thermal effects, measuring the RMS value may be preferred. It's more meaningful.

4.1.1 Voltage Waveform
