Scope

GB 13495.1-2015 is the English-translated version of 消防安全标志 第1部分:标志.

Part 1 of China's mandatory national standard for fire safety signs, covering the signs themselves. A fire safety sign has to work for a person who is frightened, possibly in smoke, and who may not read Chinese - which is why the system is built on graphical symbols and colour rather than on words. The colour coding carries most of the meaning before the symbol is even resolved: red for fire equipment and prohibition, green for escape routes and safe condition, yellow for warning. This part fixes the graphical symbols themselves - the running figure and the arrow of an escape route, the extinguisher, the hose reel, the alarm call point, the assembly point - together with their geometry, their colours and the contrast between them. Standardising the symbol matters more than it might seem: a sign recognised in half a second is a sign that works.

--- the contents such as structure, dimension, making and setting of signs were cancelled; these contents will be incorporated into other parts of GB 13495 (See Chapter 4, Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 of Edition 1992);

--- the sign of "No kindling" was cancelled (See sign No.

FLAMMABLE MATERIAL", "WARNING. OXIDIZING SUBSTANCE" and "WARNING. EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL" (see Table 3, Table 4 and Table 5);

--- the "fire ladder" was revised as "ESCAPE LADDER", its safety color was changed from red to green, and it was moved from the table of fire extinguishing equipment to the table of emergency evacuation for escape (see Table 3);

--- the dimensions of circular and triangular safety signs in Appendix A were revised, and the design dimensions of signs were specified (see Appendix A);

--- the examples for use combination of sign and supplementary direction sign were added (see Appendix B);

--- the examples for use combination of sign, supplementary direction sign and supplementary text sign were added (see Appendix C). This Part was revised by reference to Graphical Symbols - Safety Colors and Safety Signs - Registered Safety Sign (ISO 7010.2011). This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China. This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the Basic Standard Technical Subcommittee of National Technical Committee on Fire Protection of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 113/SC 1). This Part was drafted by Tianjin Fire Control Institute of Ministry of Public Security. Chief drafters of this part. Yao Songjing, Qu Li, Shen Wen, Zhang Yinhua, Feng Kexing, Li Yu and Yu Yingfei. 1.Signs Important notice. the colors of fire safety signs in this Part shall not be used in purpose of standard color matching, and the color matching shall be in accordance with those specified in Chapter 5 of Safety Colors (GB 2893-2008).

1 Scope

This Part of GB 13495 specifies the signs used in the field of fire safety. This Part is applicable to all locations and places where fire safety signs shall be set. This Part is not applicable to graphical symbols used for fire-fighting technical documents and various maps specified in GB/T 4327.

3.2 Signs are classified into 6 categories by their functions.

3.3 The common type, dimension and color of sign shall meet those specified in Appendix A.

3.4 The comparison between sign including its supplementary sign and surrounding environment shall be clear. As for actual making, border shall be used; the color and dimension of border shall meet the requirements of Figure A.1~Figure A.4 in Appendix A.

3.5 The color and luminosity of sign shall meet those specified in Chapter 5 of GB 2893-2008.
