For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions as well as the
terms and definitions defined in ISO 558 apply.
3.1 conditioning atmosphere
The environment in which a specimen or test piece is maintained before being tested.
It is characterized by specified values of temperature and relative humidity or one of
the two parameters. The parameter values are maintained within the specified allowable
values for a specified time. The selected parameter values and the length of time depend
on the nature of the sample or specimen to be tested.
NOTE 1.The term "conditioning" refers to the entire operation of subjecting specimens and test
pieces to specified conditions of temperature and humidity prior to testing and maintaining them in
this conditioning atmosphere for a specified period of time.
