3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1 interior plastic parts

plastic parts mounted on the automotive body or inside the cab

3.2 exterior plastic parts

plastic parts mounted on the automotive body or outside the cab

3.3 underhood plastic parts

plastic parts mounted inside the automotive engine compartment

3.4 sample piece

a test specimen which is taken from a complete product or part of the product in actual assembly state

3.5 template

a test specimen which has the same substrate as the sample piece, and a coated plastic plate which is prepared by the same coating process

4 Classification of coatings

The coatings are classified according to the mounting location of the automotive plastic parts and the ambient conditions. Classification, code, service condition and application example of coatings are given in Table 1.

Table 1 Classification, code, service condition and application example

Classification Code Service condition Application example

Interior plastic parts A-1 Under direct sunlight exposure and high temperature Instrument panel assembly, sun visor bracket, inner rear-view mirror housing and rear package tray, etc.

A-2 Under direct sunlight exposure and relatively high temperature Instrument panel vertical surface, steering wheel, floor console assembly, door trim, upper pillar trim, glasses case, central control panel, seat guard board, door handle (including roof grab handle), etc.

A-3 Without direct sunlight exposure Lower pillar trim, sill, seat guard board, etc.

Exterior plastic parts B-1 Under direct sunlight exposure and high temperature Antenna cap, sunroof top cover, company logo, word mark, washer nozzle, bumper, front outer panel, trim cover (strip), air director, fender, side trim cover, sill trim panel, pillar trim panel, side guard, outer rear-view mirror housing, windshield trim panel, deflector channel cover, etc.

B-2 Under direct sunlight exposure and near the engine heat source Radiator cover, fog light, grille, etc.

B-3 Without direct sunlight exposure Wheel cover, fender, tread plate trim cover (commercial automobile), etc.

Underhood plastic parts C-1 Under direct contact with engine heat source Engine trim cover, etc.

C-2 Under indirect contact with engine heat source Various protective guards, etc.
