1 Scope

China's national vocabulary for logistics - the terms in which transport, warehousing, distribution and the information that controls them are specified, contracted and regulated. It defines the basic logistics terms, the terms of logistics operations and services, the terms for logistics technology, facilities and equipment, the logistics information terms, the logistics management terms and the international logistics terms. It applies to logistics and to the application of terms related to it. Logistics is the field where imprecise language costs money directly, because almost every term in it is also a line in a contract. What counts as delivery, what a consignment is, where title and risk pass, what a third-party or fourth-party logistics provider undertakes, what distinguishes storage from warehousing from distribution processing, what a unit load is and what a returnable transport item is - each of these determines who pays when something goes wrong. And the field has absorbed vocabulary from several directions at once: from shipping and freight forwarding, from retail supply chain management, from warehouse automation and from information technology, much of it entering Chinese as loan translations that were not always consistent with one another. The standard sorts that out. The basic terms establish the framework; the operations and services terms cover transport, handling, storage, packaging, distribution processing, delivery and reverse logistics; the technology and equipment terms cover the racking, the handling equipment, the containers and unit loads and the automated systems; the information terms cover identification, tracking and the data exchanged between parties; the management terms cover supply chain organisation and performance measurement; and the international terms cover customs, forwarding and cross-border trade. Issued on 20 August 2021 and in force since 1 December 2021, it replaces GB/T 18354-2006.

This document defines basic logistics terms, logistics operation service terms, logistics technology and facilities and equipment terms, logistics information in logistics activities. Information terms, logistics management terms, international logistics terms and their definitions. This document applies to logistics and its application of terms related to logistics.

3 Basic terms of logistics

3.1 Goods goods The material data of the physical movement in economic and social activities.
