1 Scope

China's national specification for cold chain logistics of agricultural products in the producing area. The producing area is where most of the loss happens. Fruit and vegetables begin to deteriorate the moment they are picked, and the single most effective intervention is to remove the field heat within hours - precooling, before the produce is packed or moved. A cold chain that begins at the distribution centre, as most did, has already lost a large part of the shelf life and a measurable fraction of the crop. China's post-harvest losses in horticulture have been estimated at a fifth or more of production, and closing that gap is worth more than any increase in yield. The specification addresses what has to exist at the farm end: the precooling, the grading and packing under temperature control, the short-haul refrigerated transport, and the record that lets a buyer know the chain was unbroken from the field.
