Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1:1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting: This document replaces GB/T 18156-2000 "Maritime International Container Cargo Delivery Document": Compared with GB/T 18156-2000, except In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

1 Scope

GB/T 18156-2023 specifies the delivery documents for maritime international container cargo. The delivery of a container is a legal act performed on paper: the bill of lading is a document of title, and whoever holds it controls goods that may be worth more than the ship's freight, so the layout, the fields and the endorsement of these documents are not clerical detail. The revision also has to accommodate the electronic bill of lading, which China's shipping and banking systems have been moving to. The standard sets the function and use of the documents and the format of the delivery document, with informative annexes covering the bill of lading, the application of the electronic bill of lading, the charges note, the delivery record and the division of the graphic and text areas on the form. It replaces GB/T 18156-2000 and took effect on 1 April 2024.
