Scope
GB/T 30332-2024 is the English-translated version of 仓单要素与格式要求.
China's national standard on the content and layout of warehouse receipts, and the current edition of GB/T 30332, replacing the 2013 edition. It defines the types of warehouse receipt and specifies the elements a receipt must contain and the format in which they are set out, and it applies to the issuance and use of warehouse receipts in warehousing activities. A warehouse receipt is not a delivery note. It is a document of title: the warehouse operator issues it to the depositor against goods actually received under a warehousing contract, and whoever holds it, properly endorsed, is entitled to collect the goods. That makes it a negotiable instrument, and it is used as one - warehouse receipt financing, in which a bank lends against goods it never sees on the strength of the receipt and a pledge endorsement, is a substantial part of commodity trade finance in China. Everything that has gone wrong in that market has gone wrong through the document: receipts issued against goods that were not there, the same goods pledged twice on two receipts, endorsement chains that could not be reconstructed, and receipts whose description of the goods was too vague to identify what was actually stored. This standard is the response to that. It fixes 28 essential elements - 17 on the face of the receipt and 11 on the endorsement side - with recommended wording and filling instructions for each, and it requires electronic warehouse receipts to carry exactly the same essential elements as paper ones, so that dematerialising the document does not quietly drop the protections. Issued on 23 August 2024 and in force since 1 December 2024.
