Scope
GB/T 5231-2022 is the English-translated version of 加工铜及铜合金牌号和化学成分.
GB/T 5231-2022 fixes the designations and the chemical composition of wrought copper and copper alloys. It tabulates, for each designation, the code by which it is named and the limits of every element, so that a material ordered as one grade is the same everywhere.
It applies to wrought copper and copper alloy products made by pressure working and to the ingots and billets from which they are made. Mills, foundries and the buyers who write a specification use it.
It replaces GB/T 5231-2012, was issued on 9 March 2022 and has applied since 1 October 2022.

Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 "Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents".
This Standard replaces GB/T 5231-2012 "Designation and chemical composition of wrought copper and copper alloys". In this Standard, 213 designations in GB/T 5231- 2012 are kept, 133 designations are added, 346 designations in total. Compared with
GB/T 5231-2012, in addition to structural and editorial changes, the main technical changes in this Standard are as follows.
a) Add GB/T 29091 as a normative reference (see Chapter 2 of this Edition);
b) Add that "the naming method of the designations and codes of wrought copper and copper alloys shall be carried out according to the provisions of GB/T 29091" (see Chapter 4 of this Edition);
c) Delete that "The sum of impurities is the sum of all impurity elements other than the main components, mainly Ag, As, Bi, Cd, Co, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni, O, P, Pb, S, Sb, Se, Si, Sn, Te, Zn and other elements" (see 2.3 of Edition 2012);
d) Delete that "When copper or zinc is the allowance element, the difference between all the analyzed elements and 100% may be taken" (see 2.4 of Edition 2012);
e) Add that "The sum of the elements listed in 'Cu+' is the minimum limit" (see 5.2 of this Edition); Add that "'The sum of the elements listed' means the sum of the elemental contents and allowances for which limit values are specified." (see 5.3 of this Edition);
f) Add that "The rounding of numerical values in Tables 1 to 5 shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 8170.The rounding digits of each element shall be consistent with the limit digits specified in Tables 1 to 5.The rounding value comparison method shall be used for judgment" (see 5.5 of this Edition);
g) The changes to Table 1 are as follows.
1) Add 20 designations and codes of pure copper. TUP0.002, TUP0.003, TUP0.008, TUAg0.08, T1.5, TAg0.05, TAg0.08, TAg0.2, TSn0.15-0.01, TSn0.12, TSn0.15, TSn0.3, TSn0.5, TZr0.1, TMg0.15, TMg0.25, TUAl0.15, TUAl0.25, TUAl0.35, TUAl0.60 (see Table 1 of this Edition);
2) Change "dispersed oxygen-free copper" to "dispersed copper" in the classification (see Table 1 of this Edition, Table 1 of Edition 2012);
3) Change the code of TMg0.2.Change T18658 to T15615.Change from "wrought high copper" to "wrought copper" (see Table 1 of this Edition, Table 2 of Edition 2012);
4) Delete the footnotes "Arsenic, bismuth and antimony may not be analyzed, but the supplier must ensure that it is not greater than the limit value", "The oxygen content of TU2 of oxygen-free copper for electricians is not more than 0.002%", "Pure copper wire billets for contact materials of electric locomotives. Bi<=0.0005%, Pb<=0.0050%, O<=0.035%, P<=0.001%, and the sum of other impurities<=0.03%" (see Table 1 of Edition 2012);
5) Change the footnote from "Conductive T2 copper with P not more than 0.001% can be supplied through negotiation between the two parties" to "T2 copper P for conductive use is not more than 0.001%" (see Table 1 of this Edition, Table 1 of Edition 2012);
6) Change the footnote from "This value is Cu+Ag+Te", "This value is Cu+Ag+Te+P" and "This value is Cu+Ag+S+P" to "This value is the sum of Cu+Ag+alloying elements" (see Table 1 of this Edition, Table 1 of Edition
2012);
h) The changes to Table 2 are as follows.
