Scope

GB/T 37568-2019 is the English-translated version of 铜及铜合金镀锡带材.

GB/T 37568-2019 specifies the terms and definitions, the technical requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules, the marking, package, transportation, storage and quality certificate, and the contents of the ordering form or contract for tin-plated copper and copper alloy strip.

Clause 1 limits it to tin-plated copper and copper alloy strip for manufacturing high-end automotive connectors and precision electronic industrial devices, called tin-plated strip in the rest of the text, and sets no further exclusions.

Clause 3 defines the tin plating strip as a strip in which a tin metal layer of uniform thickness is attached to the surface of copper or copper alloy strip by electrochemical or physical means, and distinguishes reflow electro-tinning strips (RFSn), given a glassy and smooth tin layer by a reflow surface treatment after matt tin plating, from hot-dip tinning strips (HDSn), which are dipped in molten tin so that both sides carry a tin layer of the same thickness.

Clause 5 assigns a method to each property: the chemical composition of the base metal to GB/T 5121 in all its parts or to YS/T 482 or YS/T 483, with GB/T 5121 for arbitration, the tin raw material of hot-dip tinning strip to GB/T 728-2010 and that of reflow electro-tinning strip to negotiation between supplier and purchaser, the appearance dimensions to GB/T 26303.3, the coating thickness to Appendix B, the tensile test of the base metal to GB/T 34505-2017 with the P4 specimen of its Table 3 and the Vickers hardness test to GB/T 4340.1, the electrical properties to GB/T 351 or GB/T 32791 with GB/T 351 for arbitration, the weldability to Appendix A, the coating adhesion to GB/T 9286 or to a method agreed between supplier and purchaser, and the oxidation resistance to GB/T 6461.

Clause 6 fixes the sampling, roll by roll for coating thickness, width, side curvature and surface quality and any two rolls per batch with one specimen each for weldability, adhesion and oxidation resistance, and then sets out how a result is judged, rounded off according to GB/T 8170, with the batch rejected outright when the chemical composition of the base metal fails and a double-quantity retest allowed on the mechanical, electrical, weldability, adhesion and oxidation resistance items.

The two normative appendices carry the test methods the standard supplies itself: a vertical-dip weldability test in which at least three specimens of 10 mm by 40 mm, taken before tin plating, are dipped into the soldering bath at 3 mm per second, held for 5 seconds, withdrawn at the same speed and compared visually with a standard sample of the tin plating strip, with at least 0.5 kg of soldering material and a bath at least 40 mm deep; and an X-ray fluorescence measurement of the coating thickness on a 200 mm specimen, with at least five measuring points on each side averaged arithmetically.

Clause 2 cites GB/T 351, GB/T 728-2010, GB/T 3131-2001, GB/T 4340.1, GB/T 5121, GB/T 5231, GB/T 6461, GB/T 8170, GB/T 8888, GB/T 9286, GB/T 26303.3, GB/T 32791, GB/T 34505-2017 and YS/T 482, YS/T 483, YS/T 668 and YS/T 815. It was issued on June 4, 2019 and has applied since May 1, 2020.
