Introduction

The Conformity Assessment Committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO /CASCO) is responsible for formulating and inspecting, testing and various types of certification, etc.

1 Scope

This document defines general terms related to conformity assessment (including the accreditation of conformity assessment bodies) and its application in trade facilitation.

Appendix A gives the general principles of conformity assessment and a description of the functional method of conformity assessment.

Conformity assessment is interrelated with other areas such as management systems, metrology, standardization and statistics. This document does not define conformity assessment

boundary.

3 Common terms related to conformity assessment

3.1

Confirmation that specified requirements (4.1) are met.

Note 1.The conformity assessment process described in the functional method in Appendix A may obtain a negative result, which confirms that the specified requirements have not been met.

Note 2.Conformity assessment includes activities defined elsewhere in this document, such as but not limited to testing (5.2), inspection (5.3), validation (5.5), verification (5.6), certification

(6.6) and recognition (6.7).

Note 3.Appendix A explains conformity assessment as a series of functions. Activities that contribute to the achievement of any of these functions may be described as conformity assessment activities.

Note 1.The terms "first party", "second party" and "third party" in this document are used to distinguish conformity assessment activities for a given object and cannot be used to legally express the terms of each party in the contract.
