Foreword

This standard replaces GB/T 6411-1997 "cotton knitted underwear series of size." In the revision of this standard reference GB/T 1335.1 ~ GB/T 1335.3 apparel size standard, combined with the characteristics of the development of knitted products. This standard and GB/T 6411-1997 compared to the main changes are as follows:

1 Scope

China's national size series for knitted underwear. A size system is a piece of national infrastructure for an industry the size of China's: it lets a garment made in one province be bought in another without being tried on, sold by mail order and now online where nothing can be tried on at all, and manufactured against a specification rather than a sample. Knitted underwear needs its own system because the fabric stretches, so the garment's measured dimensions are not the wearer's - a size has to state the body it fits rather than the cloth it contains, and how much extension is assumed is part of what the system fixes. The alternative, which the standard exists to prevent, is what happens in unregulated markets, where every maker's medium is a different garment and the label tells the buyer nothing. The standard specifies the format and the size series for knitted underwear, and applies to the production of knitted underwear products.
