1 Scope

China's national standard for knitted clothing for infants and children. It specifies the terms and definitions, the sizes and specifications, the requirements, the test methods, the sampling rules and the judgement. It is the knitted counterpart to the woven infant garment standard, and the distinction matters because knitted fabric behaves differently in every respect that a children's garment standard cares about. It stretches, so the fit and the size designation depend on recovery as well as dimension; it shrinks more and less predictably in washing, which is why dimensional stability is the requirement that fails most often; and it runs and ladders where a woven fabric would fray. Beneath it sit the same mandatory safety requirements as for woven infant clothing - the limits on formaldehyde, azo dyes, extractable metals and pH, the restrictions on cords and small parts, and colour fastness to saliva, which is the requirement peculiar to this category.
