Scope
GB/T 1040.2-2022 is the English-translated version of 塑料 拉伸性能的测定 第2部分:模塑和挤塑塑料的试验条件.
This Document specifies the test conditions for determining the tensile properties of moulding and extrusion plastics, based upon the general principles given in GB/T 1040.1. It applies to rigid and semi-rigid thermoplastics moulding, extrusion and cast materials (including filled and reinforced compounds but excluding textile fibers), rigid and semi-rigid thermosetting moulding and cast materials, and thermotropic liquid crystal polymers. It is not normally suitable for rigid cellular materials or sandwich structures, nor for flexible films and sheets thinner than 1 mm. Specimens may be moulded to chosen dimensions or machined, cut or punched from moulded plates, with the multipurpose test specimen preferred.

Introduction
GB/T1040 specifies the method for determining the tensile properties of plastics and composite materials. As the basic method of plastic testing, the formulation and revision of this series of standards not only conforms to the actual situation in China, but also helps to promote the healthy development of the industry. GB/T 1040 consists of the following parts:
--- Part 1: General Principles (This Document specifies general principles for determining the tensile properties of plastics and composite materials under defined conditions, and specifies several test specimens of different shapes for use with different types of materials);
--- Part 2: Test Conditions for Molding and Extrusion Plastics (This Document specifies the test conditions for determining the tensile properties of molded and extruded materials on the basis of GB/T1040.1);
--- Part 3: Test Conditions for Films and Sheets (This Document specifies the test conditions for determining the tensile properties of plastic films or sheets with a thickness of less than 1mm on the basis of GB/T1040.1);
Composites ((This Document specifies the test conditions for the determination of isotropic and orthotropic fiber-reinforced composite materials on the basis of GB/T1040.1);
Document specifies the test conditions for unidirectional fiber-reinforced composite materials on the basis of GB/T1040.1).
GB/T 1040.1 has been revised in 2018. Because the corresponding terms and definitions have undergone major changes, GB/T 1040.2-2006 no longer matches GB/T1040.1. For the overall coordination of the basic national standard system, GB/T1040.2-2006 was revised this time.
1 Scope
This Document specifies the test conditions for determining the tensile properties of moulding and extrusion plastics, based upon the general principles given in GB/T 1040.1.
This Document is applicable to the following range of materials:
— rigid and semi-rigid thermoplastics moulding, extrusion and cast materials, including compounds filled and reinforced by, for example, short fibers, small rods, plates or granules but excluding textile fibers (see GB/T 1040.4 and GB/T 1040.5). See GB/T 1040.1-2018, Clause 3 for the definition of “rigid” and “semi-rigid”.
— rigid and semi-rigid thermosetting moulding and cast materials, including filled and reinforced compounds but excluding textile fibers as reinforcement (see GB/T 1040.4 and GB/T 1040.5);
This Document is not normally suitable for use with rigid cellular materials or sandwich structures containing cellular material. For rigid cellular materials see GB/T 9641.
This Document is not suitable for flexible films and sheets, of thickness smaller than 1 mm, see GB/T 1040.3.
This Document applied using specimens which may be either moulded to the chosen dimensions or machined, cut or punched from injection‑ or compression‑moulded plates. The multipurpose test specimen is preferred (see GB/T 37426).
2 Normative References
The provisions in following documents become the essential provisions of this Document through reference in this Document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this Document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) is applicable to this Document.
3 Terms and Definitions
4 Principle and Methods
The principle and methods described in GB/T 1040.1-2018 is applicable to this Document.
5 Apparatus
5.1 General
5.3 Recording of data
s-1 would be appropriate according to GB/T 1041.1-2018, Equation 1. This frequency increases as the gauge length increases. With larger gauge length the absolute elongation measured by the extensometer is larger for the same crosshead displacement, i.e., the recording instrument will see more data points in the same time span.
6 Test Specimens
6.1 Shape and dimensions
Wherever possible, the test specimens shall be dumb-bell-shaped types 1A and 1B, as shown in Figure 1 and Table 1. Type 1A shall be used for directly injection-moulded multipurpose test specimens, type 1B for machined specimens. Type 1A may also be used for compressionmoulded specimens. For the use of proportionally scaled miniaturized specimens, see Annex A and/or GB/T 37426.
NOTE 1: At 4 mm thickness, specimen types 1A and 1B are identical to the multipurpose test specimens according to GB/T 11997, types A and B, respectively, and to types A1 and A2 of GB/T 37426.
For purposes where large numbers of test specimens are to be exposed in limited space, for example, during analysis of environmental influences due to radiation, heat and/or chemicals (see GB/T 37188.3), small test specimens of type C of GB/T 37426 can be used. In such cases, frequently only the relative change of strength is of interest, and specimens of type CW are particularly useful. To accommodate wall thicknesses of the final application, thicknesses different from those preferred in GB/T 37426 may be used.
NOTE 2: Other miniaturized specimens with different scale factors are defined in GB/T 37426.
6.4 Checking the test specimens
6.6 Number of test specimens
7 Conditioning
8 Procedure
For measurement of the tensile modulus (see GB/T 1040.1-2018, 3.9), the speed of testing shall be 1 mm/min for specimen types 1A and 1B (see Figure 1). This corresponds to a strain rate of approximately 1 % min-1. For small specimens see Annex A.
9 Calculation and Expression of Results
10 Precision
11 Test Report
The test report shall include the following information:
a) a reference to this Document, including the type of specimen and the testing speed according to:
, resulting from l1, r, b1 and b2, but within the indicated tolerances.
