Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document is Part 3 of GB 4053 "Safety Requirements for Fixed Metal Ladders and Platforms". GB 4053 has published the following parts.

3.Industrial guardrails and platforms. This document supersedes GB 4053.3-2009 "Safety Requirements for Fixed Steel Ladders and Platforms Part

3.Industrial Guardrails and Steel Platforms". Compared with GB 4053.3-2009, the main technical changes in this document, apart from structural adjustments and editorial modifications, are as follows:

1 Scope

GB 4053.3-2025 is the Chinese national standard on safety requirements for fixed metal ladders and platform - part 3: industrial guardrails and platform, in the field of environment and health protection, safety. It carries no /T suffix, which in the Chinese system means compliance is mandatory: a product or a practice within its scope has to meet it to be lawfully made, sold or carried out in China. It was issued on 31 December 2025 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and takes effect on 1 January 2027. Classification: ICS 13.100, CCS 68. This document specifies the general requirements for fixed industrial guardrails and platforms, the structural requirements for guardrails, the structural requirements for platforms, and the requirements for doors, etc. Instructions for use and warning information requirements. 3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 guardrail Permanently installed on inclined ladders (3.17), platforms (3.9), lifts or other open edges to prevent people from falling (see Figure 1).

3.2 top rail A handle (see 1 in Figure 1) is installed at the top of the guardrail (3.1) for people to hold or climb.

3.3 handrail A bar for people to hold onto or climb, installed on the top of the guardrail (3.1) or on the side of the ramp (3.17) or access platform (3.12). Note

1.The top crossbar (3.2) of the platform (3.9), the lifting port or other open edge guardrail (3.1) also serves as a handrail. Note

2.When the height of the top horizontal bar (3.2) of the guardrail (3.1) of the inclined ladder (3.17) does not exceed 1200mm, the top horizontal bar (3.2) also serves as a handrail.

3.4 Intermediate rail Below the top crossbar (3.2), there is a protective bar (see 2 in Figure 1a).
