Decorating and refurbishing materials for interior use -Limit on formaldehyde emission of wood-based panels and their products

Decorating and refurbishing materials for interior use -Limit on formaldehyde emission of wood-based panels and their products 1 Scope

This document defines the terms and definitions of wool-based panels and their products for interior decoration and refurbishment, specifies the requirements for limit on formaldehyde emission and judgment rules, and describes the test methods for formaldehyde emission. This document applies to the formaldehyde emission limit control of production, inspection and trade of various types of wool-based panels and their products for indoor use.

2 Normative references

The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purpose of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T 18259-2018 and the following apply.

5.1.3 For hollow wool-based panels (such as hollow particleboards), the length of the test piece is (500 ± 5) mm, the width is (500 ± 5) mm. The number of test pieces is 2. The edges with holes of the test pieces are sealed with formaldehyde-free aluminum tape, and the length of unsealed edges without holes is (750 ± 5) mm.

5.1.4 When making test pieces of finger-jointed boards, no splicing or edge sealing is required. The total exposed area is calculated based on the total surface area, and the total exposed area is (1 ± 0.02) m 2.

5.1.5 The test pieces of wooden door leaves include: upper or lower stile and left and right stiles. The length of the test piece is the width of the door leaf. The width is cut into 1 m 2 according to the test area. Only the front and back sides are included in the test area. The other parts shall be sealed and not included in the area.

5.1.6 Small-sized samples (such as wooden lines, wooden door frames, etc.) can be made into test pieces by splicing, and the test pieces are sealed with formaldehyde-free aluminum tape (internal sawn seams need to be sealed).

5.2 Pretreatment of test pieces Place the test pieces at (23 ± 1) °C and relative humidity (50 ± 5) % for (168 ± 3) h, with an air replacement rate of at least 1 time/h and a distance of at least 25 mm between test pieces, so that air can circulate freely on the surface of all test pieces. The background formaldehyde mass concentration in the air shall not exceed

0.050 mg/m 3.NOTE: Use an air purification device to keep the background mass concentration below

0.050 mg/m 3.

5 Test methods ...............................................................................................................

5.3 Determination of formaldehyde emission The test pieces treated in

5.2 are tested in accordance with the provisions of 4.60.1 ~ 4.60.3,

4.60.6 in GB/T 17657-2022. No sampling is required within 48 h after the test pieces are placed in the climate chamber; starting from 48 h, samples shall be taken twice every 24 h, and the time interval between each sampling shall exceed 3 h. If a stable state is reached, sampling shall be stopped. If a stable state is not reached within 168 hours, the test shall be terminated. The formaldehyde emission result is the average of the mass concentrations of the last 4 determinations. NOTE: When the enterprise conducts production quality control, it shall select other test methods (see Annex A) for determination and establish the correlation with the 1 m 3 climate chamber method specified in this document.
