GB/T 20257.2-2017 sets out the symbols used on Chinese 1:5 000 and 1:10 000 topographic maps and the rules for applying them.
It specifies the symbols and notes for ground features and landforms, the annotations and the map frame decoration, starting from general provisions on symbol classes (to scale, half to scale and not to scale), symbol sizes in millimetres, positioning points, configuration and colour.
The symbols are grouped into positioning bases, water systems, settlements and facilities, transport, pipelines, boundaries, landforms, and vegetation and soil, followed by notes, and annexes give examples and the frame decoration style.
It applies to making maps at these two scales and can guide the preparation of geographic base maps. It replaces GB/T 20257.2-2006, was issued on 14 October 2017 and has applied since 1 May 2018.

3 General regulations
3.1 Classification of symbols
3.1.1 Scale symbol. When the feature is reduced by the scale, its length and width can be expressed by the scale symbol.
3.1.2 Semi-scale symbol. After the scale is reduced by the scale, the length can be scaled and the width cannot be expressed by the scale. number. Mark the width dimension value next to the symbol.
3.1.3 Not according to the scale symbol. After the scale is reduced by the scale, its length and width cannot be expressed by scale. Marker symbol next to the symbol Inch value.
3.2 Symbol size
3.2.1 The size values marked with numbers next to the symbols are in millimeters (mm).
3.2.2 Only one dimension value is placed next to the symbol, indicating the diameter of the circle or circumcircle, the length of the equilateral triangle or the square; the two size values are For the column, the first number indicates the height of the main part of the symbol, the second number indicates the width of the main part of the symbol; the number of one end of the line symbol Word, single line refers to its thickness, and two parallel lines refer to the width of the line (the street refers to the width of the blank part). Need special mark on the symbol The size value of the note is indicated by a dotted line.
3.2.3 The thickness of the symbol line, the length of the line segment and the angle of the intersecting line segment, etc., are not marked with the symbol of this figure. general In the case, the line is thicker by 0.12 mm, the diameter of the point is 0.2 mm, and the line length of the non-main part of the symbol is 0.4 mm (such as a steep and short line). The angle of the vertical intersecting line segment is 45° or 60°.
3.3 Symbol positioning
3.3.1 There is a point in the symbol graph, which is the physical center position of the feature.
3.3.2 Symbols such as circles, squares, and rectangles, and the positioning point is at the center of its geometry.
3.3.3 The wide-bottom symbol (yurt, chimney, water tower, etc.) is located at the center of its bottom line.
