GB/T 37270.1-2018 is the English-translated version of 海洋基础地理要素矢量地图 第1部分:符号设计.
GB/T 37270.1-2018 is the first of three parts of the Chinese standard on vector maps of basic marine geographic features, and covers the design of their symbols.
It sets out the style and description of the symbols and the principles and requirements to follow when designing them, starting from the rule that a symbol should picture the marine feature it stands for.
It defines marine basic geographic elements, vector map symbols, vector maps and symbol types, and refers to the chart symbols of GB/T 12319 and the marine legends and symbols of GB/T 32067.
It applies to the elements shown on electronic base maps of marine geographic information systems of every scale. Parts 2 and 3 deal with the symbol library and the symbol exchange format. It was issued on 28 December 2018 and has applied since 1 July 2019.

Foreword
GB/T 37270 "Marine Basic Geographical Elements Vector Map" is divided into three parts.
--- Part 1. Symbol design;
--- Part 2. Symbol Library Design;
--- Part 3. Symbol format exchange.
This part is the first part of GB/T 37270.
This part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 37270 specifies the symbolic style, description and design principles and requirements of the vector map of marine basic geographic elements.
This section applies to the display of the electronic base map elements of various scale marine geographic information systems.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the dated version applies to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Marine basic geographic element
Basic geography with strong versatility in the marine field, large sharing requirements, and spatial data features for spatial and spatial analysis unit.
3.2 Vector map symbol
In the information system, a flag or an information carrier that displays characteristics such as the shape, quantity, and quality of the object space is displayed.
3.3 Vector map
An electronic map consisting of vector space data and vector symbols.
3.4 Symbol type
Represents a vector symbol class that represents a vector symbol class that classifies the spatial distribution of objective things.
