Scope
GB/T 33177-2016 is the English-translated version of 国家基本比例尺地图 1:5 000 1:10 000地形图.
GB/T 33177-2016 fixes the classification, the technical requirements, the content and manner of presentation, the quality inspection and the marking and packaging of the national fundamental scale topographic maps at 1:5 000 and 1:10 000.
Clause 1 states that it applies to the production, the quality control, the distribution and the use of those two map series.
Clause 4 divides topographic maps by the medium on which they are stored into digital topographic maps and paper topographic maps and gives their classification and codes in Table 1, while the classification and codes of digital topographic maps held in raster form are to follow CH/T 9009.4.
Clause 3 defines the topographic map, taking the definition from GB/T 16820-2009, as a map showing the basic geographic features of the surface, the road network, the water system, boundaries, soils and vegetation together with the ground contours, and it distinguishes the paper topographic map, stored on paper media, from the digital topographic map, stored in digital form.
Its contents list names scope, normative references, terms and definitions, classification, technical requirements, content and expression, quality inspection, marking and packaging, and a bibliography.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Topographic map
It is the basic geographical element of the surface, the road network, the water system, the realm, the soil and the vegetation, and the contours of the ground. Map. [GB/T 16820-2009, definition 7.2]
3.2 Paper topographic map
A topographic map stored on paper media.
3.3 Digital topographic map
A topographic map stored in digital form.
4 Classification
Topographic map by storage is divided into digital topographic maps and paper topographic maps, classification and code in Table 1. Table 1 shows the digital ground in the form of a grid The classification and code of the chart are executed according to CH/T 9009.4.
