GB/T 28585-2025 is the English-translated version of 地理信息 要素编目方法.
GB/T 28585 is the Chinese standard for feature cataloguing in geographic information: how you write down, in a form a machine can use, what the things in a spatial dataset actually are. A feature catalogue defines the feature types a dataset contains, their attributes and the domains those attributes may take, the associations between feature types, and the operations that apply to them. Without one, two datasets that both contain a layer called "road" cannot be safely combined, because nothing states what either party meant by a road; with one, they can. The document specifies the requirements for a feature catalogue as a conceptual model, its XMI implementation and its XML instance documents, together with the conformance rules, and it carries two normative annexes: the abstract test suite against which a conformance claim is tested, and the management of a feature catalogue register. It is identical to ISO 19110:2016, so a catalogue built to the ISO standard satisfies the Chinese one. The 2025 edition replaces GB/T 28585-2012 and brings in the requirements-class structure, the XML implementation requirements and both annexes.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part
1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 28585-2012 "Method for cataloguing geographic information elements". Compared with GB/T 28585-2012, except for the structure In addition to adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) Added XML implementation of the feature catalog conceptual model and conformance class content of XML instance documents (see Chapter 5);
b) Change "principle requirements" to "requirements", and divide the content into overview, conceptual model requirements, XML implementation requirements, and XML instance document requirements. Find 4 parts (see Chapter 6, Chapter 6 of the.2012 edition);
c) Added "XML implementation requirements" (see 6.3) and "XML instance document requirements" (see 6.4);

g) The description of "XML namespace" in Appendix D "Encoding Instructions" has been changed (see D.2, E.2 of the.2012 edition). This document is equivalent to ISO 19110.2016 "Method for cataloguing geographic information elements". The following minimal editorial changes were made to this document.
a) The website information after the term introductory words in Chapter 3 of ISO 19110.2016 has been deleted and moved to the references of this document;
b) Adjust Chapter 5 "Abbreviations" of ISO 19110.2016 to the end of Chapter 3 "Terms and Definitions" and change it to Chapter 4;
c) Supplemented the missing labeling clauses in Table 1 of the first paragraph of
4.1 of ISO 19110.2016;
d) Change Chapter 4 "Conformance" of ISO 19110.2016 to Chapter 5 and delete the title "Conformance Class" in 4.1;
