Scope

GB/T 42435-2023 is the English-translated version of 海岸侵蚀监测与灾害损失评估技术规范.

GB/T 42435-2023 is the Chinese national technical specification for monitoring coastal erosion, assessing the losses it causes and compiling the resulting data.

Its contents list covers data collection and desk research, on-site monitoring and data processing, then the method and the steps of the erosion hazard assessment and the required outputs - datasets, result maps and a monitoring and evaluation report.

Sixteen normative appendices carry the field and statistical forms: monitoring pile embedding and design, pile registration, shoreline and cross-section field records, the disaster loss field survey, shoreline retreat rate, beach erosion rate, section and dynamic sediment observation, the risk assessment method, the intensity and disaster grade tables and the report format.

Clause 1 states that it applies to sandy and silty-muddy coasts of the mainland and islands. Issued on 23 May 2023, it has applied since 1 September 2023.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Coastal erosion

Geological disasters caused by natural factors and human factors that cause the coastline to recede, or the beach surface to erode, narrow and steepen. [Source: GB/T 18190-2017, 5.1.1]

3.2

The slope between the low tide line and the closed water depth. [Source: GB/T 18190-2017, 2.1.9]

3.3

A steep coastal slope with a height difference ranging from a few centimeters to tens of meters and a slope greater than 70°.

3.4 beach erosion

Coastal erosion changes caused by natural or human factors that reduce the elevation of the beach surface.
