GB 8408-2018 is the Chinese national safety code for large-scale amusement devices, the rides operated in amusement parks and similar places.
It sets the basic safety requirements across the whole life of a ride: the general rules, the materials and fasteners to be used, the design, the manufacturing and installation, and the management, operation and maintenance in service, including the safety operation management system and the responsibilities of the operator.
Its appendices list the national and industry standards for the steels commonly used, set the required mechanical properties of non-metallic materials and the property classes of the usual bolts and nuts, and give examples of load combinations, the limit state design method and welded joint forms.
It does not apply to competitive sport devices or fitness equipment. It replaces GB 8408-2008, was issued on 14 May 2018 and has applied since 1 December 2018.
