Scope
GB/T 3953-2024 is the English-translated version of 电工圆铜线.
GB/T 3953-2024 is the Chinese national standard for the round copper wire used in wires and cables, in electric machines and in other electrical and electronic devices. It fixes four types — TR soft, TR1 class 1 soft, TY hard and TY1 class 1 hard — in single-wire or multiline structure, with nominal diameters from 0.0160 mm to 14.00 mm for TR and TY, up to 5.00 mm for TR1 and from 1.50 mm to 5.00 mm for TY1. The wire is made from copper rod to GB/T 3952; the surface shall be smooth and continuous, free from cracks, scratches, burrs and sticking; the diameter tolerance runs from ±0.001 mm on the finest wire to ±1 % of the nominal diameter from 0.400 mm up. Volume resistivity at 20 °C is capped at 0.017241 Ω·mm²/m for TR and 0.017070 Ω·mm²/m for TR1, and from 0.018440 down to 0.017593 Ω·mm²/m for the hard types according to diameter; tensile strength for hard wire runs from 445 MPa down to 270 MPa, with elongation figures set for every diameter step. No welded or twisted joint is allowed in the finished wire. This second revision of the 1983 standard adds the class 1 soft type, the multiline structure and its acceptance rules. In force since 1 October 2024.

Round copper wire of the same state and specification produced by the same manufacturer under the same production conditions.
Note: a lot usually comprises part or all of the ordered quantity.
3.2 Single wire
A metal wire of a single strand having a specified circular cross-section.
3.3 Multiline wire
A metal wire made up of several single wires of the same state and specification arranged parallel to one another.
4 Type, structure, specification and designation
4.1 Type
The type of round copper wire is composed of a material code, a state code and a performance code. The material code T means that the material is copper; in the state code R means the soft state and Y means the hard state; the performance code indicates the class by a figure. See Table 1.
Table 1 gives four types: TR, soft round copper wire; TR1, class 1 soft round copper wire; TY, hard round copper wire; and TY1, class 1 hard round copper wire. TR and TR1 are both copper round wires in the soft state, but the resistivity of TR1 is lower than that of TR; TY and TY1 are both copper round wires in the hard state, but the tensile strength of TY1 is higher than that of TY.
4.2 Structure
The structure of round copper wire is divided into single wire and multiline wire; the multiline wire is expressed by the nominal number of wires.
4.3 Specification
The specification of round copper wire is expressed by the nominal diameter, and its range shall comply with Table 2: 0.0160 mm to 14.00 mm for TR and TY, 0.0160 mm to 5.00 mm for TR1, and 1.50 mm to 5.00 mm for TY1.
4.4 Designation
Round copper wire is designated by the type, the structure, the specification and the number of this document.
Example 1: soft round copper wire of single-wire structure with a nominal diameter of 2.60 mm is designated TR-2.6 GB/T 3953-2024.
Example 2: class 1 soft round copper wire of multiline structure made of 16 wires of nominal diameter 0.500 mm is designated TR1-16/0.5 GB/T 3953-2024.
Example 3: hard round copper wire of single-wire structure with a nominal diameter of 0.0300 mm is designated TY-0.03 GB/T 3953-2024.
Example 4: class 1 hard round copper wire of single-wire structure with a nominal diameter of 2.15 mm is designated TY1-2.15 GB/T 3953-2024.
