Scope

GB 12358-2024 is the English-translated version of 作业场所环境气体检测报警仪器 通用技术要求.

GB 12358-2024 sets the general technical requirements for gas detection and alarm instruments used in the workplace environment - gas detectors, gas alarms and combined gas detectors and alarms for flammable gases, toxic and harmful gases and oxygen - and applies to their manufacture and use.

It defines the terms (portable, fixed, aspirated, diffusion, contact and contactless instruments, upper measurement limit, minimum response value and others), classifies the instruments, and specifies technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, transport and storage, marking, the content of the instructions for use, and requirements for use such as selection, adjustment, calibration and periodic verification.

The requirements and tests cover appearance, audible and visual alarms, orientation, response time, high-velocity air flow, insulation and dielectric strength, high and low temperature, damp heat, electromagnetic compatibility, vibration and drop, steam interference, wireless communication and functional safety; informative annexes give the test items, the tests for contact and contactless instruments and the steam interference test method.

It replaces GB 12358-2006: 10 terms were deleted, 12 changed and 23 added, and requirements were added for the sampling distance and flow of aspirated instruments, surge and conducted RF immunity, steam interference, wireless communication, functional safety and instrument use.

It was issued on 28 November 2024 and has been in force since 1 June 2025. Classification: ICS 13.320, CCS C69. The document runs to 39 pages, delivered complete in English translation.
