Scope

GB/T 2374-2017 is the English-translated version of 染料 染色测定的一般条件规定.

China's national general rules for dyeing tests on dyestuffs. It specifies the general conditions under which a dyeing test is carried out for the determination of the properties of a dye. A dye has no properties in isolation. Its strength, its shade, its build-up, its levelness and its fastness are all properties of the dye on a particular fibre applied by a particular method, and every one of those numbers changes if the conditions change. The depth of shade obtained depends on the liquor ratio, the temperature and time profile, the electrolyte and the pH; the apparent strength of a dye compared with a standard depends on both being dyed at the same depth, because strength is not linear with concentration; and the fastness ratings depend on the depth at which the specimen was dyed, since a pale dyeing is almost always faster than a deep one. So a dyeing result quoted without its conditions is not merely imprecise, it is uninterpretable - and comparing two dyes dyed under different conditions is meaningless. That is what this standard exists to prevent. It fixes the substrate and its preparation, the liquor ratio, the water quality, the auxiliaries and electrolytes and their concentrations, the temperature and time profile of the dyeing, the after-treatment and washing off, and the drying and conditioning of the dyed specimen before assessment. The individual test methods of the dyestuff series - for strength, shade, fastness and the rest - are then written on top of these conditions rather than restating them, which is why this short document is cited by all of them. Issued on 31 May 2017 and in force since 1 December 2017, it replaces GB/T 2374-2007.

1 Application Scope

This Standard specifies the requirements for materials and reagents, requirements for apparatus, basic requirements for dyeing test, control of dyeing process and evaluation of dyeing results in dyeing (or printing) tests. This Standard applies to dyeing (or printing) tests of all varieties of dyestuffs.

3 Requirements for Materials and Reagents

3.1 Reagents The chemical reagents and dyeing auxiliaries used in dyeing test shall be the normal

5.1.2.2 Colour fastness When colour fastness is tested, one or several depths may be tested as required by the applications of all dyestuffs. Each depth for dyeing selected shall be as specified in GB/T 4841.1-2006, GB/T 4841.2-2006 and GB/T 4841.3-2006. The standard depth for dyeing 1/1 or 1/3 may be selected as a general rule; the standard depth for dyeing light navy blue or light black may be selected for navy blue and black dyestuffs.

5.1.2.3 Other dyeing performances The depths for dyeing shall be specified in the standard or test method when the other dyeing performances of dyestuffs are tested. Unless otherwise stated, the standard depth for dyeing 1/1 specified in GB/T 4841.1-2006 is used as a general rule.

5 Basic Requirements for Dyeing Test...

5.2 Dyed fibres

5.2.1 Selection of fibres Select appropriate categories of fibres in accordance with the nature of dyestuffs to be tested; select yarns or fabrics in accordance with the test purpose. The yarns or fabrics selected shall satisfy relevant quality specification standards or requirements. They shall be specified in detail in the method standards or products of all varieties of dyestuffs as a general rule.

5.2.2 Weighing of yarns or fabrics The weight of yarns or fabrics used for dip dyeing test shall be accurate to

0.01 g at least. The fabrics for pad dyeing and printing shall be cut into an appropriate size as required, without weighing.

5.2.3 Pretreatment of yarns or fabrics All yarns or fabrics shall be treated first before dyeing test as a general rule; the methods and conditions for treatment shall be specified in detail in the test methods of all varieties of dyestuffs. The yarns or fabrics which have been treated and washed shall be dehydrated of excessive water. The water brought into the dye vat along with the yarns or fabrics is not included in the volume of dye liquor.

5.3 Dyestuffs

5.3.1 Weighing The dyestuffs for dip dyeing shall be weighed accurately to 0.000 2 g; the dyestuffs for pad dyeing and printing shall be weighed accurately to

0.001 g. During pad dyeing and printing, the standard dyed samples and dyed samples of dyestuffs shall be weighed

6.3 During hand dyeing, the stirring degree of all dye vats shall be kept consistent; keep stirring within 15 min from the beginning of dyeing and then stir once every 5 min henceforth. Try to make the times of stirring consistent. The splash of dye liquor out of the dye vats shall be avoided during stirring; after stirring, the yarns or fabrics shall not be exposed above the liquor surface.

6.4 Before dying, all fibres shall be marked, dyed in sequence and taken out after dyeing in the same sequence and for the same time interval to ensure the times of dyeing for all dyed samples are the same. In addition, the other controlling factors for all dye vats shall be kept consistent.

6.5 During the process of dyeing (especially the hand boiling dyeing for a long time), attention shall be paid to the volume of dye liquor; water of the same temperature as that of dye liquor shall be added if necessary to maintain a certain bath ratio.

6.6 During pad dyeing, the pick-up ratios of all dyed samples shall be consistent; the deviation of temperature control for pre-baking and baking shall not be greater than 2°C.

6.7 During printing, the pressures around the printing equipment shall be consistent; the running speed of scraper shall be constant.

6.8 After dyeing, the dyed samples shall be treated in accordance with the posttreatment method specified; then the dyed samples are suspended in an airflow containing no hazardous gas for drying. Direct sunlight exposure shall be avoided. They may also be suspended in an electric heating drying oven of temperature not exceeding 60°C for drying.

6.9 The dyed samples shall be stored for some time after drying; they shall be evaluated after the shade becomes stabilized. The dyeing samples for the evaluation of shade and relative strength shall be dyed uniformly; the depths of standard dyed samples and dyed samples shall satisfy the depth interval specified for dyeing.
