Scope

GB 4838-2018 is the English-translated version of 农药乳油包装.

GB 4838-2018 specifies the packaging of emulsifiable concentrates of pesticides: packaging classification, technical requirements for packaging materials and packed products, marking, test methods, acceptance and the recovery of pesticide packaging waste.

Large drum packaging uses steel or plastic drums (5 L to 250 L) and bottle or bag packaging uses glass bottles, fluorinated HDPE or PET bottles and aluminium foil bags, with material requirements such as a 35 °C thermal shock and an 85 °C chemical stability test for glass, class II requirements of GB 3796-2018 for plastic bottles and drums, and a Sudan III test of fluorination; filled bottles must not leak when inverted for 24 h, outer boxes are limited to 20 kg and a table gives recommended packing quantities per unit size.

Inner labels must carry sixteen items including registration and licence numbers, toxicity class, recycling mark and packaging traceability code, outer boxes carry the prescribed markings and colour bars by pesticide type, and stacking, drop, leakproofness and hydraulic tests follow GB/T 4857.3, GB/T 4857.5, GB/T 17344 and GB/T 325.1, with acceptance sampling of 0.5% or 0.3% per batch against GB 12463-2009.

It replaces GB 4838-2000, adding terms and definitions, aluminium foil bags, recyclable and traceability marking and the recovery of packaging waste, and deleting ampoules, calcium-plastic corrugated boxes and the former transport and storage clause.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB 4838-2000 Packaging for emulsifiable concentrates of pesticides. Compared with GB 4838-2000, the main technical changes are as follows:

- the terms and definitions of pesticide packaging waste, pesticide packaging, pesticide internal packaging and pesticide external packaging have been added (see Clause 3);

- the packaging environment and packaging preparation have been deleted (see 5.1 of the 2000 edition);

- aluminium foil bags have been added to the packaging materials (see 5.1.3);

- product packaging has been deleted (see 5.2 of the 2000 edition);

- ampoules have been deleted from the packaging materials (see 5.3.3 of the 2000 edition);

- calcium-plastic corrugated boxes have been deleted from the packaging materials (see 5.3.6 of the 2000 edition);

- packaging marks have been changed to packaging marking (see Clause 6; Clause 6 of the 2000 edition);

- a recyclable packaging mark and a mark stating that the packaging shall not be discarded at will have been added to the packaging marking (see 6.2);

- a packaging traceability code has been added to the packaging marking (see 6.2 and 6.4.1);

- packaging transport and storage have been deleted (see Clause 7 of the 2000 edition);

- content on the recovery of pesticide packaging waste has been added (see Clause 9).

This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
