Scope

GB 19307-2003 is the English-translated version of 百草枯母药.

GB 19307-2003 specifies the requirements, test methods, and marking, labelling, packaging, storage and transport of paraquat technical concentrates, and applies to concentrates consisting of paraquat, the impurities arising in its manufacture, and an emetic.

The product is a homogeneous liquid that shall contain at least 30.5 % paraquat cation, with a paraquat-to-triazolopyrimidinone mass ratio of (400 ± 50) : 1, 4,4'-bipyridine not exceeding 0.3 % of the paraquat content, water-insoluble matter not exceeding 0.5 % and a pH of 2.0 to 6.0; other emetics meeting FAO Specification 56/TK/S/F (1994) are permitted.

Paraquat content is determined by reversed-phase liquid chromatography with sodium heptanesulfonate ion pairing at 290 nm (referee method) or by a colorimetric method in which paraquat is reduced with alkaline sodium dithionite and measured at 600 nm; the emetic is determined by liquid chromatography at 320 nm, and pH according to GB/T 1601.
