Scope

GB 1350-2009 is the English-translated version of 稻谷.

GB 1350-2009 is the Chinese national quality standard for paddy (unhusked rice). It applies to commercial paddy for purchase, storage, transport, processing and sale, and divides it into five classes: early and late long-grain nonglutinous (indica), medium to short-grain nonglutinous (japonica), long-grain glutinous and round-grain glutinous paddy.

Paddy is graded 1 to 5, plus below grade, on husked rice yield (from >= 79.0% to >= 71.0% for indica and indica glutinous paddy, from >= 81.0% to >= 73.0% for japonica and japonica glutinous paddy), with head rice yield, foreign matter <= 1.0%, moisture <= 13.5% or <= 14.5%, yellow-coloured rice <= 1.0%, husked rice in paddy <= 2.0%, admixture <= 5.0% and normal colour and odour; hygiene requirements refer to GB 2715 for food and GB 13078 for feed, and the test methods, lot definition, judgement rules, labelling, packaging, storage and transport are specified.

All its technical content is mandatory. It replaces GB 1350-1999, making head rice yield a non-grading indicator with revised values and adding the below-grade class, judgement rules and labelling provisions.

Issued on 28 March 2009 and in force since 1 July 2009. Classification: ICS 67.060, CCS B22. The document runs to 6 pages, delivered complete in English translation.
