Scope
GB/T 6995.3-2008 is the English-translated version of 电线电缆识别标志方法 第3部分: 电线电缆识别标志.
GB/T 6995.3-2008 covers the identification marking of cables and wires as Part 3 of GB/T 6995, a standard the foreword divides into five parts dealing with general requirements, standard colours, identifications of cables and wires, identifications of insulated conductors of cables and wires for electrical appliances and equipments, and identifications of insulated cores of power cables.
Clause 1 makes this Part applicable to the identification of electrical equipment's wires and cables, power cables and communication cables, and states that it shall be used together with GB/T 6995.1-2008 and GB/T 6995.2-2008; it prints no exclusion.
The body runs through clause 3 on marking content, clause 4 on marking method and clause 5 on marking requirements, after clause 2 on normative references, which cites GB/T 6995.1-2008 and GB/T 6995.2-2008.
Clause 3 states that a complete identification mark of wires and cables consists of a manufacturing-place mark, a functional mark and a length mark where there is one, that the marking content is to be fixed in the product standard, and that a manufacturing date mark such as year-month is to be negotiated between supplier and purchaser.
Clause 4 requires the manufacturing-place mark to be marked continuously on the outer surface of the sheath or insulation, or continuously on a scrape-tape, isolation strip, insulating strip or marking strip, allows it to be carried together with the functional mark and allows the manufacturer's own single-colour or multi-colour marking lines where the product standard defines them clearly, and gives the usual order of marks as the manufacturer's name or trademark, the model and the specification, written in Chinese characters, in Chinese Pinyin, in a suitable foreign language or with other graphical symbols.
Clause 5 refers the general requirements of marking to GB/T 6995.1-2008, requires marking colours to comply with or come near the colours specified in Chapter 2 of GB/T 6995.2-2008, and requires the marking strip, which may be one strip or several, to be non-hygroscopic; the draft prints no text at all under 5.2 Printing mark and skips 4.2, so these two places cannot be reported.
Against the 1986 edition the foreword records the addition of the normative references chapter, of length marking, of manufacturing date marking, of other graphical symbols for the manufacturing place and of laser printing, and the deletion of the provision that let exported products use Made in China as the manufacturing-place mark.
This Part was proposed by China Electrical Equipment Industrial Association and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Wires and Cables of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 213).
It replaces GB 6995.3-1986, was issued on June 18, 2008 and has applied since March 1, 2009.
