Scope

GB/T 19666-2019 is the English-translated version of 阻燃和耐火电线电缆或光缆通则.

GB/T 19666-2019 is the Chinese general rules for flame-retardant and fire-resistant wires, cables and optical fibre cables.

It fixes the codes for the combustion characteristics, the technical requirements, the test methods and the acceptance rules, and applies to halogen-containing, halogen-free, low-smoke and low-toxicity flame-retardant and fire-resistant products.

It defines flame retardance, fire resistance, halogen free as a released gas whose fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine content is at most 1.0 mg/g, low smoke and low toxicity.

It builds the product model from the combustion characteristic code and the cable model, separates single-piece from bunched flame retardance and gives the flame-retardant and fire-resistant cable series.

Three normative annexes cover two water spray test methods and the toxicity indicator test. It replaces GB/T 19666-2005, was issued on 10 December 2019 and has applied since 1 July 2020.

3 Terms and Definitions

For the purposes of this Document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1 Flame retardance

The characteristics that, when the sample is burned under specified conditions, the spread of flame on the sample is only within a limited range after the ignition source is removed, and it has the capability of preventing or delaying the occurrence or spread of flame.

3.2 Fire resistance

The characteristic that a specimen can continue to operate under specified conditions when it is burned under specified ignition source and time.

3.3 Halogen free

The characteristic that the halogen (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine) content of the gas released during combustion is all less than or equal to 1.0 mg/g.

3.4 Low smoke

The characteristic that the concentration of smoke produced by burning does not reduce visibility (light transmittance) to the extent that it affects escape.

3.5 Low toxicity

The characteristic that the toxic effect and concentration of the toxic fumes produced during combustion shall not cause the living organisms to die within 30min.

4 General

The combustion characteristics of flame-retardant and fire-resistant wire and cable or optical fiber cable products shall comply with the requirements of this Standard; and other properties other than combustion characteristics shall comply with the requirements of the corresponding product standards.

5 Product Model

5.1 Code and combination of combustion characteristics

5.1.1 Code of combustion characteristics

The code of combustion characteristics can refer to Table 1.

5.1.2 Code combination of combustion characteristics

Flame retardant series of code combinations of combustion characteristics are shown in Table 2; fire-resistant series of code combinations of combustion characteristics are shown in Table 3. When there are multiple requirements for combustion characteristics, the code shall be combined according to the sequence of halogen-free (halogen-containing omitted), low smoke, low toxicity, flame retardance and fire-resistance.

5.2 Composition of product model

Flame-retardant and fire-resistant wire and cable or optical fiber cable product model consists of the two parts, namely, the code of combustion characteristics and the model of relevant wire and cable or optical fiber cable, see Figure 1.

5.3 Expression of product

The flame-retardance and fire-resistance wire and cable or optical fiber cable product shall be expressed by the following contents, such as code of combustion characteristics, product model, specification, this Standard number and product standard number.

6 Requirements for Combustion Properties

6.1 Flame retardance

6.1.1 Single-piece flame retardance

The single-piece flame retardance shall meet the requirements of Table 4.

6.1.2 Bunched flame retardance

The bunched flame retardance shall meet the requirements of Table 5.

6.2 Fire resistance

The fire resistance shall meet the requirements of Table 6.

6.4 Low smoke performance

The low smoke performance shall meet the requirements of Table 8.

6.5 Low toxicity performance

Test methods and analytical methods can refer to Appendix C.

When the application occasions of the wire and cable or optical fiber cable have low toxicity requirements, it shall use halogen-free, low smoke and low toxicity flame retardant and / or fire-resistant wire and cable or optical fiber cable, the toxicity index can be determined through negotiation between the manufacturer and the purchaser. If not specified, the recommended toxicity indicator is less than or equal to 5.

7 Technical Requirements

7.1 Flame-retardant wire and cable or optical fiber cable series

7.1.1 (Halogen-containing) flame-retardant wire and cable or optical fiber cable

(Halogen-containing) flame-retardant wire and cable or optical fiber cable are manufactured by using halogen-containing materials; the products of combustion are more corrosive; the smoke from combustion is denser (lower transmittance).

7.1.2 Halogen-free, low-smoke flame-retardant wire and cable or optical fiber cable

The non-metallic materials used by the halogen-free, low-smoke flame-retardant wire and cable or optical fiber cable have very little halogen content; the combustion products are of low corrosion; the combustion generated smoke is less (higher transmittance). The following categories can be made according to the flame-retardant characteristics.

7.1.3 Halogen-free, low-smoke, low-toxicity flame-retardant wire and cable or optical fiber cable

The non-metallic materials used by the halogen-free, low smoke and low toxicity flame-retardant wire and cable or optical fiber cable shall have very little halogen content; the combustion products are of lower corrosion and toxicity; the combustion products have lower smoke (higher transmittance).

7.2 Fire-resistant wire and cable or optical fiber cable series

The cable at the rated voltage of 0.6/1kV and below shall use the copper conductors; the insulation shall have fire-resistant characteristics; otherwise, the conductor and / or cable core shall be set with fire-resistant layer. Data cables shall be set up on the cable core of the fire-resistant layer.

8 Acceptance Rules

8.1 The basic performance of the flame-retardant and fire-resistant wire and cable or optical fiber cable products shall meet the requirements of the relevant product standards. When the product standard does not specify the flame resistance, fire resistance, halogen-free performance, low smoke performance and low toxicity performance indicators, then the provisions of this standard shall be met.

8.2 The combustion performance requirements specified in this Standard include flame retardance (see 6.1), fire resistance (see 6.2), halogen-free performance (see 6.3), low smoke performance (see 6.4) and low toxicity performance (see 6.5), which are the type test items.

8.3 The security requirements of flame-retardant and fire-resistant wire and cable or optical fiber cable are higher. Given the actual situation of wire and cable or optical fiber cable materials often changes, the manufacturers shall conduct strict quality control; establish the appropriate intermediate quality control means; develop the appropriate combustion performance sampling test cycle; so as to ensure product quality.
