4 General requirements
4.1 General requirements
Electrical accessories shall be designed and constructed to ensure reliable performance under normal use and, in accordance with GB/T 20002.4, reduce risks to an acceptable level to ensure safety.
Unless otherwise specified, the normal operating environment for devices conforming to the requirements of this document is a Class 3 pollution environment as specified in
GB/T 16935.1-2023.
For other pollution levels, creepage distances and clearances shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 16935.1-2023; the comparative tracking index (CTI) shall be evaluated according to the requirements of GB/T 4207.Tests and requirements are detailed in 26.1.3.
According to GB/T 4208, the minimum protection rating of the accessory shall be IP23.
Plugs, appliance input sockets, socket combinations used together shall comply with the requirements of this document and relevant standard sheets (if any).
Compliance is generally checked through all specified tests.
4.2 General notes on testing
4.2.1 All tests specified in this document are type tests. If a part of an electrical accessory has already passed a test at a given severity level, meanwhile the severity of the relevant type test does not exceed that of the test already conducted, these relevant type tests need not be repeated. When a device or electrical accessory conforming to this document contains a component or element that conforms to the relevant national standard, THEN, that component or element does not require further testing unless its use differs significantly from the purpose of the standard.
4.2.2 Unless otherwise specified, test specimens shall be tested under normal operating conditions at an ambient temperature of (20 ± 5) °C and at the rated frequency, in the condition delivered.
4.2.3 Unless otherwise specified, tests shall be conducted in the order of the chapters and clauses of this document.
4.2.4 Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be performed using 3 specimens;
however, if necessary, tests in Chapters 11.1.4 and 29 shall be performed separately using a new set of supplementary specimens. If the tests in Chapters 20, 21, 22 are to be conducted using both DC and AC, then the tests conducted using AC shall be performed on 3 additional specimens.
4.2.5 If no specimen fails the applicable tests throughout the series, the electrical
accessory is deemed to comply with the requirements of this document. If one specimen fails a test, that test, and any preceding tests that may have affected its results, shall be repeated on another set of 3 specimens. During the retest, all 3 specimens shall pass.
Generally, only the test that caused the failure needs to be repeated. However, if the specimen fails one of the tests in Chapters 21 and 22, the retest shall begin with the test in Chapter 20.
The applicant may submit an additional set of specimens at the same time as the first set, in case any specimens fail. This allows the testing station to test the additional specimens without waiting for a further request from the applicant; meanwhile, the item will only be deemed unqualified if it fails again. If additional specimens are not submitted simultaneously, the item will be deemed unqualified if any specimen fails.
4.2.6 Since the electrical accessories conforming to the requirements of this document
are intended to connect only copper or copper alloy cables, when testing is to be performed using conductors, the conductors used shall be copper conductors and shall conform to the requirements of GB/T 5023 (all parts), GB/T 3956-2008 [Chapter 3,
Solid (Type 1), Stranded (Type 2), Flexible Conductor (Type 5)] and GB/T 5013.4-2008.
5 Standard ratings
5.1 Rated operating voltage or rated operating voltage range is declared by the manufacturer.
5.2 Preferred rated current values are given in Table 1.
Table 1 -- Preferred rated current values
6 Classification
6.1 Classification by application.
- Plugs;
- Fixed sockets;
- Portable sockets;
- Appliance input sockets.
6.2 Classification by protection class according to GB/T 4208 (with minimum
protection class IP23, see 4.1).
Note. According to GB/T 4208, electrical accessories with a second characteristic numeral of 7 or 8 are only applicable to watertight applications. Electrical accessories used for blowout protection, with a second characteristic numeral of 5 or 6, require additional testing, meanwhile the corresponding products must also be marked.
6.3 Classification by grounding structure.
- Electrical accessories without grounding contacts;
- Electrical accessories with grounding contacts.
6.4 Classification by cable connection method.
