GB 12995-2006 is the English-translated version of 机动轮椅车.
GB 12995-2006 specifies the terms, model designation, technical requirements, sampling and test methods, inspection rules, marking, instructions for use, packaging, transport and storage of combustion-motor-driven wheelchairs.
It applies to petrol-engined wheelchairs, generally three-wheeled, driven by persons with lower-limb disabilities whose upper limbs are fully functional; light wheelchairs have a nominal displacement up to 50 mL and general wheelchairs above 50 mL up to 150 mL.
Clauses 5.1 and 5.2, the mandatory part, require all controls to be operated by the upper limbs, a disability sign, a side-tilt stability angle of at least 25°, a maximum design speed of 50 km/h, braking distances of 4 m at 20 km/h (light) and 7.5 m at 30 km/h (general), and compliance with the motorcycle standards on lighting, horns, mirrors, exhaust emissions, noise and radio disturbance; further clauses set dimensions, starting, gradeability, fuel consumption, assembly and appearance requirements and the corresponding test methods.
It replaces GB 12995-1991, adding terms and abbreviations, a new model designation method and extended technical requirements and test methods. Issued on 10 March 2006 and in force since 1 December 2006.
