Scope
GB 11121-2025 is the English-translated version of 汽油机油.
GB 11121-2025 specifies the product varieties and designation, technical requirements and test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, storage, transport and delivery acceptance of gasoline engine oils made from base oils blended with additives, for use in automotive spark-ignition four-stroke gasoline engines.
The technical requirements, the core of the document, set the physico-chemical limits and engine test performance for each quality grade and viscosity grade, assessed by a large body of referenced methods: viscosity and viscosity index, low-temperature cranking and pumping, high-temperature high-shear viscosity, Noack and gas-chromatographic volatility, foaming, shear stability, element and sulfated ash content, and engine sequence tests for oxidation, wear, sludge, deposits, rust and fuel economy.
A normative annex gives the viscosity-temperature requirements for SF quality grade oils, and an informative annex lists the technical changes.
It replaces GB 11121-2006 (first issued in 1989, revised in 1995 and 2006); besides structural and editorial changes, the main technical changes are set out in Annex A. Issued on 30 June 2025, in force from 1 July 2026.
Classification: ICS 75.100, CCS E34. The document runs to 39 pages, delivered complete in English translation.
