Scope

GB/T 5009.60-2003 is the English-translated version of 食品包装用聚乙烯、聚苯乙烯、聚丙烯成型品卫生标准的分析方法.

China's national analysis method for the hygienic standard of polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene products used in food packaging.

These three polymers are the bulk of all food contact plastic - the film, the bags, the bottles, the tubs, the trays and the disposable tableware - and the hygiene question about them is not the polymer itself, which is inert, but what migrates out of it into the food.

That is a short list with real content: residual monomer, particularly styrene, which has both a toxicological history and a taste threshold low enough to spoil the product; the oligomers and processing aids; heavy metals from pigments and stabilisers; and whatever can be extracted by the media that stand in for food - water, acetic acid, ethanol and hexane, chosen to represent aqueous, acidic, alcoholic and fatty foods.

The standard specifies the analytical methods for each hygienic index of such products, and is the companion method to the material standards that set the limits.

Foreword

This standard specifies the measuring methods of hygienic index of food vessel, tableware and packing film which are made of Polyethylene, Polystyrene and Polypropyrene.

This standard is applicable to the measuring methods of hygienic index of such tools and pipes as food vessels, tableware and packing films which are made of Polyethylene, Polystyrene and Polypropyrene.

1 Scope

2 Sampling Method

Each lot of the samples shall be taken according to 0.1% in proportion and the sampling volume of smaller lots shall be no less than 10 (calculated at 500mL volume/loaf and if it is less than 500mL/loaf, the specimen shall be doubled). Among which, half the number shall be tested and the other half shall be preserved for two months for arbitration analysis and shall be marked with product name ,lot number and date of sample. Clear the specimen for the next application.

3 Soaking Conditions

3.1 Water: 60°C soaked for 2h.

3.2 Acetic acid (4%): 60°C, soaked for 2h.

3.3 Ethanol (65%): Room temperature, soaked for 2h.

3.4 Normal hexane: Room temperature, soaked for 2h.

The soak solution mentioned above shall be adopted according to 2mL for per square centimeter of contact area and 2/3~4/5 volume of soak solution shall be adopted in the vessel.
