GB/T 5009.80-2003 specifies the methods of analysis for the hygienic standard (GB 11678) of polytetrafluoroethylene coatings on the inner walls of food containers.
It applies to PTFE-based coatings with auxiliaries, applied to aluminium, iron sheet and other metal surfaces and sintered at high temperature, used as non-stick coatings for containers in contact with non-acidic foods at service temperatures below 250 °C. The standard sets out the preparation of six coated test plates (2 mm × 100 mm × 50 mm), their pretreatment, and the soaking conditions in water and 4% acetic acid (boiling 0.5 h, then 24 h at room temperature) and n-hexane (24 h at room temperature) at 2 mL per square centimetre; it then covers sensory examination, residue on evaporation and potassium permanganate consumption (by GB/T 5009.60-2003), chromium by atomic absorption or diphenylcarbazide colorimetry (by GB/T 5009.81-2003), and fluorine by the ion-selective electrode method (by GB/T 5009.18-2003).
It replaces GB/T 11679-1989, restructured in accordance with GB/T 20001.4-2001 on the drafting of chemical analysis methods. Issued on 11 August 2003 and implemented on 1 January 2004.

This standard replaces GB/T 11679-1989, Method for analysis of hygienic standard of polytetrafluoroethylene coating for inner wall of food containers.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the methods of analysis for the hygienic standard of polytetrafluoroethylene coatings for the inner walls of food containers.
This standard applies to polytetrafluoroethylene coatings consisting mainly of polytetrafluoroethylene compounded with certain auxiliaries, applied to the surfaces of metals such as aluminium and iron sheet and sintered at high temperature, used as non-stick coatings for containers in contact with non-acidic foods. The service temperature is limited to below 250 °C.

3 Preparation and treatment of test samples
3.1 Preparation of test samples
Using metal or glass plate substrates of 2 mm × 100 mm × 50 mm, prepare coated test plates according to the actual application process, 6 plates in total; half are used for the test and the other half are retained for two months for arbitration analysis.
3.2 Pretreatment of test samples
Wash the test samples with detergent, rinse with tap water, then rinse three times with water, allow to dry and keep for use.
3.3 Soaking conditions
Water: boil for 0.5 h, then leave at room temperature for 24 h.
4% acetic acid: boil for 0.5 h, then leave at room temperature for 24 h.
n-Hexane: leave at room temperature for 24 h.
The above soaking solutions are added at 2 mL per square centimetre of contact area; where the test sample is a container, fill it with soaking solution to 2/3 to 4/5 of its capacity.
4 Sensory indices
Examine the surface of the coating film and the soaking solutions visually.
5 Residue on evaporation
Analyse in accordance with the method for the determination of residue on evaporation specified in GB/T 5009.60-2003.
6 Potassium permanganate consumption
Analyse in accordance with the method for the determination of potassium permanganate consumption specified in GB/T 5009.60-2003.
7 Chromium
7.1 Atomic absorption method
Analyse in accordance with the atomic absorption method specified in GB/T 5009.81-2003.
7.2 Diphenylcarbazide colorimetric method
Analyse in accordance with the diphenylcarbazide colorimetric method specified in GB/T 5009.81-2003.
8 Fluorine
Analyse the soaking solutions by the fluoride ion-selective electrode method specified in GB/T 5009.18-2003.
