GB/T 27534.3-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering recording what a cattle breed actually is, across common cattle, buffalo, yak and zebu — the herd overview, the body shape and appearance and the body measurements, the growth and the slaughter and meat traits down to the shear force that stands for tenderness, the milk composition measured by infrared, the reproduction, the survey methods, and the records and archives that make the figures traceable afterwards. Part 3 of the eleven-part series, with the camel and alpaca part GB/T 27534.7-2025. It replaces GB/T 27534.3-2011, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In force from 1 November 2025. Issued on 25 April 2025, it has been in force since 1 November 2025, replacing GB/T 27534.3-2011.

Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.

GB/T 27534 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources" and GB/T 45550 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Bee Genetic Resources", GB/T 45552 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Silkworm Genetic Resources" and GB/T 45553 "Technical Specifications for Investigation of Tussah Genetic Resources" jointly support the investigation of livestock and poultry, The basis for the investigation of genetic resources of bees and silkworms.

This document is part 3 of GB/T 27534 "Technical Specifications for Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Survey". GB/T 27534 has issued the following part.

This document replaces GB/T 27534.3-2011 "Technical Specifications for Survey of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Part 3: Cattle" and GB/T 27534.3- Compared with 2011, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

a) The scope of application has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2011 edition);

b) The survey content has been changed (see Chapter 6, Chapter 5 of the 2011 edition);

c) The survey method has been changed (see Chapter 7, Appendix B of the 2011 edition);

d) The cattle genetic resources survey table (see Appendix A, Appendix A of the 2011 edition) has been modified.

Introduction

Livestock and poultry genetic resources are important strategic resources for maintaining national ecological security and agricultural security, and are the material basis for the high-quality development of animal husbandry.

Conducting livestock and poultry genetic resource surveys is a statutory duty stipulated in the Animal Husbandry Law of the People’s Republic of China and is an important task in approving new livestock and poultry breeds (supporting lines) and identifying The basic requirements for identifying new genetic resources, formulating livestock and poultry genetic resource protection and utilization plans and livestock and poultry genetic resource protection lists, and engaging in breeding livestock and poultry production and management, etc.

GB/T 27534 "Technical Specifications for Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Survey" aims to standardize and guide the investigation of livestock and poultry genetic resources. It consists of eleven parts.

— Part 1: General Principles. The purpose is to provide general survey rules for livestock and poultry genetic resources surveys.

— Part 2: Pig. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of pig genetic resources.

— Part 3: Cattle. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of cattle genetic resources.

— Part 4: Sheep. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of sheep genetic resources.

— Part 5: Goats. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of goat genetic resources.

— Part 6: Horses and donkeys. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of horse and donkey genetic resources.

— Part 7: Camels and alpacas. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of camel and alpaca genetic resources.

— Part 8: Rabbit. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of rabbit genetic resources.

— Part 9: Poultry. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of poultry genetic resources.

— Part 10.Deer. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of deer genetic resources.
