GB/T 3157-2023 is the English-translated version of 中国荷斯坦牛.
GB/T 3157-2023 is the Chinese national standard that describes the Chinese Holstein dairy cow and fixes what an animal must meet to be recognised as one.
It gives the breed's origin - imported purebred Holstein cattle crossed with Chinese native yellow cattle and improved by selective breeding - and its appearance, from the black-and-white coat and the white markings on forehead, belly and lower limbs to the udder and milk veins of adult cows.
It sets requirements for body weight and body size, for milk production performance and for reproductive performance, and describes how those indicators are measured.
It is used for breed identification, and cites GB 4143 for bovine frozen semen and NY/T 2659 for milk composition. It replaces GB/T 3157-2008, was issued on 17 March 2023 and has applied since 1 October 2023.
