1 Scope

GB/T 12412-2024 is the Chinese national standard on yak, in the field of textile and leather technology. The /T suffix marks it as a recommended standard: it is not compulsory by itself, but it becomes binding as soon as a contract, a tender or a customer specification calls it up - which in practice is how most foreign buyers meet it. It was issued on 28 November 2024 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and has been in force since 1 June 2025. Classification: ICS 59.060.10, CCS W21. This document stipulates the product classification, technical requirements, sampling, inspection rules, packaging, marking, storage and transportation of yak wool. 3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 5706, GB/T 11951, GB 18267 and GB/T 35936 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Fibers with a diameter of 35 µm or less obtained from yaks.

Note. Yak raw wool and combed yak wool are collectively called yak wool.

3.2 Fibers obtained from yaks have a diameter of more than 35 µm and the portion above 35 µm exceeds 1/2 of the total length of the fiber.

3.3 It is a mixed fiber of down obtained from yaks, mainly down with natural impurities and unprocessed down.
