Scope
GB 21551.2-2010 is the English-translated version of 家用和类似用途电器的抗菌、除菌、净化功能 抗菌材料的特殊要求.
GB 21551.2-2010 is Part 2 of GB 21551, used together with GB 21551.1-2008, and specifies the test methods and the evaluation of effect for the antibacterial and antifungal performance of antibacterial materials and components used in household and similar electrical appliances.
A material is rated antibacterial with an antibacterial rate of at least 90% plus the leaching inhibition zone requirement of A.2.3 of GB 21551.1-2008, antifungal with a mildew-proof grade of 1 or 0, and both when it meets the two conditions.
Normative Annex A gives the film covering method for non-absorbent articles and coatings (50 mm × 50 mm samples against an HDPE control, 0.2 mL inoculum of Staphylococcus aureus AS 1.89 or Escherichia coli AS 1.90, incubation at 37 °C and RH > 90% for 24 h, antibacterial rate R = (B - A) / B × 100%); Annex B gives the absorption method for non-wovens, textiles, foams, powders and microporous materials, Annex C the antifungal test method and informative Annex D a list of antibacterial components of household appliances.

The GB 21551 "Antibacterial, bacteria-removal and purification functions for household and similar electrical appliances" series of standards consists of several parts: Part 1 is the general requirements, and the other parts are particular requirements.
This part is Part 2 of GB 21551. This part shall be used in conjunction with GB 21551.1-2008 "General requirement of antibacterial and cleaning function for household and similar electrical appliances".
Annexes A, B and C of this part are normative, and Annex D is informative.
