GB 20922-2007, part of the six-part series on the reuse of urban recycling water, sets the quality of reclaimed urban wastewater used for farmland irrigation, where the water source is the effluent of urban wastewater treatment plants.

Table 1 gives 19 basic control items with maximum limits differentiated for fibre crops, dry grain and oil crops, wet grain and open-air vegetables - for example BOD5 from 100 down to 40 mg/L, CODCr from 200 to 100 mg/L, pH 5.5 to 8.5, faecal coliforms 40 000 or 20 000 per litre and ascaris eggs 2 per litre - and Table 2 gives 17 selective items such as beryllium, boron, cyanide and benzene with single limits.

Fibre crops and dry grain require enhanced primary treatment of the wastewater and wet grain and open-air vegetables secondary treatment; main channels must be protected against seepage, the nearest irrigation intake must meet the limits, and local irrigation trials must precede use.

Basic items must always be tested, selective items according to the industrial pollutants received by the treatment plant, with monitoring points and frequency to NY/T 396 and analysis methods listed in Tables 3 and 4.
