GB 14166 is the mandatory standard for the seat belts and restraint systems fitted to motor vehicles in China. It sets the technical requirements and the test methods for the belt assembly and its components — webbing, retractor, buckle, adjuster, pretensioner and load limiter — the requirements for installing them in the vehicle, the instructions that must be supplied with them, the rules for judging whether a variant is the same type, and the transitional provisions. At 42,000 words with fourteen normative annexes it is one of the larger automotive safety standards, and it is the document a belt supplier is type-approved against. Issued on 29 September 2024, in force since 1 July 2025, replacing GB 14166-2013.
