Scope

YY 0076-1992 is the English-translated version of 金属制件的镀层分类 技术条件.

YY 0076-1992 is the Chinese pharmaceutical industry standard for the protective and decorative electroplating of metal parts of medical equipment. It covers single-layer coatings of nickel, chromium, zinc, tin, silver, gold, cadmium and black nickel and multi-layer systems such as nickel plus chromium or copper-tin alloy plus chromium.

It divides coatings into six categories according to the working conditions of the part, shows where each is used in medical equipment, and sets minimum thicknesses on finished parts, bright or matt finish grades to GB 1238 and appearance grading tables for each type of plating.

It closes with acceptance rules, including sampling of at least 3% of small parts per batch, inspection methods and the marking of coatings under GB 1238. Issued on 20 January 1992, it has applied since 1 July 1992.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for classification, application scope, technical requirements, acceptance rules, inspection method, markings of the electroplating of medical equipment.

This standard is applicable to the single-layer (nickel, chromium, zinc, tin, silver, gold, cadmium, black nickel) plating and multi-layer (nickel + chromium, nickel + nickel + chromium, copper + nickel + chromium, copper-tin alloy + chromium) plating of the metal articles for protective decoration purpose.

2 Normative references

GB 1031 Surface roughness - Parameters and their values

GB 1238 Designation symbols for metal coatings and chemical treatments

GB 6463 Metallic and other non-organic coatings - Review of methods of measurement of thickness

3 Classification of plating

3.1 According to the working conditions and structural requirements of metal parts, the plating is divided into the following 6 categories.

3.2 The scope of application of plating in various medical equipment is as shown in Table 1.

4 Technical requirements for plating

4.1 The minimum thickness of various plating of finished parts are as specified in Table 2.

4.2 The metal parts are divided into bright or matt plating according to needs.

According to the requirements in GB 1238, the bright plating includes full bright (L3), bright (L2), semi-bright (L1) plating. The matt plating is dark plating.

4.3 The grading requirements for various plating's appearance shall be as specified in Table 4 ~ 12.

4.3.1 The grading requirements for chromium-plating's appearance are as shown in Table 4.

4.3.5 Grading requirements for the appearance of zinc plating and cadmium plating are as specified in Table 8.

4.3.7 Grading requirements for the appearance of tin plating are as specified in Table 10.

4.3.8 Grading requirements for the appearance of black nickel plating are as specified in Table 11.

5 Acceptance rules, inspection methods, marking

5.1 The plating of the parts is in the unit of piece. The inspection department of the manufacturer will inspect it.

5.2 Inspection of plating appearance. For large parts, it shall be inspected one by one; for small parts, sample more than 3% from each batch for inspection.

5.4 The marking of the plating shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB 1238, that is, the representation of the metal plating is composed of three parts, each part is connected to other part by the dot "·". The order of arrangement is as follows.

5.5 For parts which need plating, it shall be marked according to the provisions of GB 1238 in the design drawings and other design documents.

Example 1.For the electroplating category V nickel + chromium plating; full bright; grade 1 appearance, Ra0.20 µm, the marking, appearance grade and Ra are represented as follows. […]
