Scope
GB/T 9491-2021 is the English-translated version of 锡焊用助焊剂.
GB/T 9491-2021 covers fluxes used for tin soldering of electronic products. It classifies fluxes by type as rosin, resin, organic or inorganic, by form as liquid (L), solid (S) or paste (P), and by activity.
It sets the technical requirements and matching test methods, including spread rate, viscosity, electrochemical migration (ECM), ionic residues on printed boards and spattering, together with the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage of the product.
Flux manufacturers and electronics assemblers use it to qualify and accept soldering flux. It replaces GB/T 9491-2002, was issued on 31 December 2021 and has applied since 1 July 2022.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 9491-2002 "Liquid Flux for Soldering (Rosin Type)". Compared with GB/T 9491-2002, except for editorial The main technical changes outside the modification are as follows:
---Added the classification of flux, such as rosin type, resin type, organic type, inorganic type, and classified liquid (L), solid state by form (S), paste (P) (see Chapter 4, Chapter 3 of the 2002 edition);
--- Increased requirements and test methods for viscosity (see 5.4, 6.5);
--- Increased requirements and test methods for electrochemical migration (ECM) (see 5.13, 6.14);
--- Increased the requirements and test methods for ion residues on PCB boards (see 5.15, 6.16);
--- Increased splash requirements and test methods (see 5.16, 6.17);
--- Delete the mold growth requirements and test methods (see 5.13 of the 2002 edition).
1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and identification, packaging, transportation and storage of soldering fluxes.
This standard applies to soldering flux for electronic products.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Spread rate
Wetting and spreading characteristics of solder under the action of flux.
3.2 Electrochemical migration; ECM
The phenomenon that the residual ions on the board surface move directionally under the action of an electric field after flux soldering.
4 Categories
4.1 Morphological classification
Soldering fluxes are divided into: liquid (L), solid (S) and paste (P) according to the form.
4.2 Activity classification
See Table 1 for the activity classification of soldering fluxes.
