Scope

GB/T 6503-2017 is the English-translated version of 化学纤维 回潮率试验方法.

GB/T 6503-2017 specifies the test method for the moisture regain of man-made fiber, namely the oven weighting method and the cold weighting method. Clause 1 states that the standard is applicable to man-made fiber.

It runs Scope, Normative References, Terms and Definitions, Principle, Apparatus, General Rules of Test, Test Procedures, Result Calculation and Test Report, with a normative appendix on the correction of mass after baking under non-standard atmosphere and an informative appendix on the infrared or halogen moisture analyzer method.

Clause 3 defines constant mass, where the difference between two weighings before and after treatment does not exceed the specified range, and oven weighting, where the specimen is baked in the oven and weighed inside it with the balance attached to the oven, and the principle is to place the specimen in an oven at a specified temperature and bake it until the moisture is removed and the mass is constant.

The apparatus clause requires a ventilated oven with an in-oven weighing device and a temperature accuracy of plus or minus 3 degrees Celsius, a balance, a sealed sample container that does not absorb moisture and a weighing box of known mass and good airtightness for cold weighting.

The general rules of test take two specimens from each batch for a parallel test, send the sampling of filament to GB/T 6502 and that of staple fibre to GB/T 14334, and set the standard atmosphere for conditioning and test at a temperature of 20 plus or minus 2 degrees Celsius with a relative humidity of 65 plus or minus 5 per cent for fibres whose conventional moisture regain is less than 4.5 per cent and 65 plus or minus 3 per cent for those at or above that figure, the mass after baking being corrected per the normative appendix when the atmosphere entering the oven is not standard.

The test procedures clause makes the oven weighting method the arbitration method, taking 50 g of specimen weighed to 0.01 g, baking it at the temperature and for the time of Table 2 and then weighing every 10 minutes until the mass is constant, while the cold weighting method takes about 10 g weighed in the weighing box to 0.001 g; results are obtained by formula, averaged over the two specimens to represent the batch and rounded to two digits after the decimal point.

Clause 2 cites GB/T 4146, all parts, and GB/T 6502. It replaces GB/T 6503-2008, was issued on 29 December 2017 and has applied since 1 July 2018.

Foreword

This Standard was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This Standard replaced GB/T 6503-2008 Testing Method for Moisture Regain of Man-Made Fibers; compared with GB/T 6503-2008, this Standard has the major technical changes as follows.

--- Modify the scope of the standard (see Clause 1 of this Edition; Clause 1 of Edition 2008);

--- Adjust the normative references (see Clause 2 of this Edition; Clause 2 of Edition 2008);

--- Delete the definition of "moisture content"; modify the definition of "constant mass" (see Clause 3 of this Edition; Clause 3 of Edition 2008);

--- Modify the principle (see Clause 4 of this Edition; Clause 4 of Edition 2008);

--- Add the ventilated oven that can be used for cold weighting, and oven ventilation rate (see 5.1 of this Edition; 5.1 of Edition 2008);

--- Modify the general rules of test (see Clause 6 of this Edition; Clause 6 of Edition 2008);

--- Adjust Table 2 (see Clause 7 of this Edition; Clause 7 of Edition 2008);

--- Delete "baking basket needs to be calibrated mass at 105°C~110°C, and subject to this" (see 7.1.3 of this Edition; 7.1.3 of Edition 2008);

--- Delete the requirements specified in the product standards for implementing Appendix A (see Appendix A of this Edition; Appendix A of Edition 2008);

--- Modify the Value a in the Appendix A (see Table A.1 of this Edition; and Table A.1 of Edition 2008);

--- Adjust the instrument specifications in Appendix B (see B.3.1 of this Edition; and B.3.1 of Edition 2008);

--- Add heating temperature of dacron (DTY) in Appendix B (see B.5.4 of this Edition; B.5.4 of Edition 2008).

1 Scope

This Standard specifies the test method for moisture regain of man-made fiber, namely, oven weighting method and cold weighting method.

This Standard is applicable to the man-made fiber.

2 Normative References

The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) are applicable to this document.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions and those ones stipulated in GB/T 4146 (all parts) are applicable to this document.

3.1 Constant mass

The specimen is treated and separated for a certain time; then the difference of two weightings before and after treatment doesn't exceed the specified range.

3.2 Oven weighting

Bake the specimen to remove moisture within the oven; then use the balance attached to the oven to weigh the specimen mass within the oven.

4 Principle

Place the specimen into the oven with specified temperature, bake it and remove the moisture to the constant mass;

5 Apparatus

5.1 Oven

The oven weighting adopts the ventilated oven attached with weighing device in the oven; the oven temperature accuracy is ±3°C.

5.2 Balance

The balance shall meet the following requirements. […]

5.3 Sample container

It is used for holding specimen, it shall be sealed and don't absorb moisture.

5.4 Weighing box

It is used for cold weighting, with good airtightness and known mass.

6 General Rules of Test

6.1 Extraction of sample in laboratory

6.1.1 The sampling of staple fiber shall be as specified in GB/T 14334.

6.1.2 The sampling of filament shall be as specified in GB/T 6502. The laboratory sample is combined and twisted, then cut the specimen.
