Scope

GB/T 43824-2024 is the English-translated version of 村镇供水工程技术规范.

GB/T 43824-2024 is the Chinese technical specification for rural and township water supply projects, and it governs one of the largest pieces of public infrastructure work in the world: the extension of piped, treated water to villages and small towns across China. Its engineering problem is not the one a city water code addresses. The schemes are small, the sources are often shallow groundwater or a small surface intake of variable quality, the demand is seasonal and hard to forecast, the pressure has to be delivered across dispersed settlements, and there is rarely a full-time operator. The standard is organised the way such a project is developed: the basic requirements, the project planning, the design basis for centralised supply schemes covering the design supply scale and water consumption, the water quality and pressure to be delivered and the flood, seismic, structural and electrical requirements; then the water source and intake structures, the treatment, the storage and pumping, the transmission and distribution network, the plant and instrumentation, the construction and acceptance, and the operation and management. It takes effect on 1 July 2024.
