Scope
GB/T 4209-2022 is the English-translated version of 工业硅酸钠.
GB/T 4209-2022 is the Chinese national product standard for industrial sodium silicate, whose molecular formula clause 4 gives as Na2O.nSiO2 with n greater than 1.0.
It covers the classification and coding, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules, marking, labelling, packaging, transport and storage, and clause 1 applies it to industrial solid and industrial liquid sodium silicate.
Its foreword lists what this third revision changed against the 2008 edition: a new way of writing the codes and new codes for both forms, two added specifications, liquid L-250-37 and solid S-280, tighter iron content requirements, changed density and modulus requirements, a higher soluble solid content requirement, and reworked iron, sodium oxide, silica and alumina determinations.
It replaces GB/T 4209-2008, was issued on 11 July 2022 and has applied since 1 February 2023.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" drafted.
This document replaces GB/T 4209-2008 "Industrial Sodium Silicate". Compared with GB/T 4209-2008, except for structural adjustments and editorial changes Besides, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Changed the molecular formula (see Chapter 4, Chapter 3 of the 2008 edition);
b) Added the representation method of encoding (see 5.2);
c) Changed the code of liquid sodium silicate and solid sodium silicate (see 6.2, 5.2 of the 2008 edition);
d) Two specifications of liquid sodium silicate (L-250-37) and solid sodium silicate (S-280) were added (see 6.2);
e) The iron content index requirements for the superior liquid sodium silicate products, first-class products and solid sodium silicate superior products have been improved (see 6.2, 2008 edition). 5.2);
f) The density index requirements for liquid sodium silicate have been changed (see 6.2, 5.2 of the 2008 edition);
g) Modified the requirements for the modulus of liquid sodium silicate and solid sodium silicate (see 6.2, 5.2 of the 2008 edition);
h) The soluble solid content index requirements for qualified products of solid sodium silicate have been improved (see 6.2, 5.2 of the 2008 edition);
i) Changed the preparation steps of the liquid sodium silicate test solution and the pipetting volume of the test solution in the iron content determination method [see 7.3.4.1.1 and 7.3.4.4, 6.4.4.2a) and 6.4.4.4 of the 2008 edition];
j) Changed the preparation method of liquid sodium silicate test solution in the determination method of sodium oxide content [see 7.6.4.1.1, 2008 edition 6.7.4.1a)];
k) The calculation formula of sodium oxide content has been changed (see 7.6.5, 6.7.5 of the 2008 edition);
l) Modified the calculation formula of silica content (see 7.7.4, 6.8.4 of the 2008 edition);
m) The test procedure for the determination method of alumina content has been changed (see 7.10.4, 6.11.4 of the 2008 edition).
1 Scope
This document specifies the classification and coding, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, signs, labels, packaging, transportation and storage of industrial sodium silicate.
