Scope

GB/T 1587-2025 is the English-translated version of 工业碳酸钾.

GB/T 1587-2025 is the Chinese national standard on potassium carbonate for industrial use, in the field of chemical technology. The /T suffix marks it as a recommended standard: it is not compulsory by itself, but it becomes binding as soon as a contract, a tender or a customer specification calls it up - which in practice is how most foreign buyers meet it. It was issued on 5 October 2025 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and has been in force since 1 May 2026. Classification: ICS 71.060.50, CCS G12. This page is published from the official record of the standard held by the Chinese standards administration: the identification, the dates, the classification and the issuing body are taken from there. The clause text, the tables and the numeric limits are in the document itself, which is delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 1587-2016 "Industrial Potassium Carbonate". Compared with GB/T 1587-2016, the main differences are structural adjustments and editorial changes. Aside from the changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

a) The Type II classification has been changed (see 6.2,

5.2 in the.2016 edition);

b) Add a "segment" to Table 1 (see 6.2);

c) Added Type I superior grade products and Type II "heavy metal" items, indicators, and test methods (see 6.2, 7.8);

d) The method for determining potassium carbonate content, "acid-base titration," has been changed to "arbitration method" (see 7.3.1,

6.3.1 in the.2016 edition);

e) An additional test method, "Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry" (see 7.7), has been added for the testing of sodium, calcium, magnesium, and iron content.

f) The method for determining chloride content, "mercurometric titration" (see 7.11.1), has been removed, and "potentiometric titration (arbitration method)" has been added. (See

6.6.1 in the.2016 edition);

g) Batch size has been changed (see 8.2,

7.2 in the.2016 version). Please note that some content in this document may involve patents. The issuing organization of this document assumes no responsibility for identifying patents.
