Scope

GB/T 40890-2021 is the English-translated version of 教学用玻璃仪器一般质量要求和试验方法.

GB/T 40890-2021 sets the general quality requirements for the glass instruments used in school laboratories and the tests that check them.

It covers geometry, fit and capacity, with wall thickness, frosting, tightness, roundness, straightness, verticality, parallelism and conical ground joints, then appearance, internal stress, resistance to internal pressure, thermal shock, average linear thermal expansion coefficient and chemical stability, the glass material itself, and environmental tests for stacking, vibration and free fall in the packed state.

It also gives the inspection rules, marking, certificate of conformity, product manual, packaging, transport and storage, with annexes on ground joint sizes and minor defects.

It applies to laboratory glassware for primary and secondary schools, can serve as a reference for universities, and excludes electric vacuum and optical teaching instruments. It was issued on 26 November 2021 and has applied since 26 November 2021.
