Scope
GB/T 13043-2022 is the English-translated version of 客车定型试验规程.
China's national test procedure for the type approval of buses and coaches - the programme a new design must complete before it can be put into production. It specifies the requirements for the bus type test, the conditions under which a test is terminated, the test items, the test methods and the test report, and it applies to the type testing of M2 and M3 category buses. A bus is a vehicle whose failures fall on people who had no part in choosing it, in numbers, and the type test is where a design is examined rather than a sample of production. The programme covers the vehicle as a whole rather than its components, which have their own approvals: the power performance and the gradeability, which determine whether the vehicle can hold a schedule on the routes it is sold for; the fuel or energy consumption; the braking performance, including the behaviour on a long descent, which is where bus accidents with the highest casualties happen; the handling and stability; the ride comfort, measured because a coach that vibrates at the wrong frequency is unusable on a long route however well it performs otherwise; the noise inside and outside; the heating, ventilation and air conditioning, which on a full vehicle is a safety matter as much as a comfort one; the electrical system; the durability and reliability run, which is the longest and most expensive part of the programme and the one that finds what a short test cannot; and the inspection of the body structure and the interior. The conditions for terminating a test matter as much as the tests: a programme that continues after a significant failure produces a result that means nothing, and the standard says when to stop. Issued on 30 December 2022 and in force since 1 July 2023, it replaces GB/T 13043-2006.

3.1 of the.2006 edition);
b) Added the terms and definitions of hybrid electric bus, pure electric bus and fuel cell electric bus (see 3.2,
c) Changed the test conditions and terminated the test conditions (see Chapter 4, Chapter 4 of the.2006 edition);
d) The performance test items of hybrid and pure electric electric buses have been added (see 5.4);
e) Deleted the special device (see
5.3.10 of the.2006 edition);
f) Delete the performance retest requirements (see
5.4 of the.2006 edition);
g) Changed the requirements for the number of reliability test samples (see 4.1.3,
