3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.2 pure kernel ratio The proportion of sunflower kernels of sunflower seeds in the mass fraction of the sample, of which the unsound kernels are calculated as half of their number. NOTE: Unsound kernels refer to sunflower kernels that are damaged but still have use value, including broken kernels, sprouted kernels, moldy kernels, injured kernels, spotted kernels, etc. Broken kernels refer to the seeds that are flattened and damaged and their kernels are broken; sprouted kernels refer to the seeds whose buds or radicles break through the seed coats; moldy kernels refer to the seeds whose surfaces are moldy; injured kernels refer to the seeds that are damaged by worms and their kernels are injured; spotted kernels refer to the seeds with diseased spots on kernels.
3.3 oil content The proportion of the crude fat of sunflower seeds in the mass fraction (in dry basis) of the sample.
3.4 useless material Substances other than sunflower seeds, and sunflower seeds of no use value. NOTE: The useless materials include throughs, inorganic impurities, and organic impurities. Throughs refer to the material that can pass through a sieve with
3.5 mm diameter round holes; inorganic impurities refer to minerals (such as sand, cinder, bricks and tiles, soil) and other inorganic substances; organic impurities refer to useless sunflower seeds, heterogeneous oilseeds, grains, and other organic matter.
